NURS 4003 - Issues and Trends in Critical Care Nursing (3) Credit Hours Prerequisite: Successful completion of NURS 3012 , NURS 3021 , NURS 3031 , NURS 3040 with a Grade of C or higher The critical care elective is an intra-professional and inter-disciplinary survey course which introduces students to the management of care for clients experiencing high acuity alterations in wellness in various specialty populations with a focus on restorative care, and to the role of the nurse as a member of the healthcare team. The focus is on understanding intra- and inter-disciplinary collaboration while exploring various sub-disciplines in nursing such as critical care, emergency department, or management and leadership of higher acuity patients. Aspects of wellness and illness and the impact of the social determinants of health will be explored. The emphasis is on understanding the impact of populations with high acuity illness on communities and on understanding physiologic, spiritual, and psychosocial changes associated with severe illness.
