MATH 2200H - Calculus I Honors

(4) Credit Hours
Prerequisite: MATH 1113  or MATH 1113H  
Co-requisite: Enrollment in the GGC First Year Honors Experience or Honors Program; or, permission of the Dean of the School of Science and Technology and the Director of the GGC Honors Programs.
An introduction to differential calculus. Upon completion of this course a student will be able to: (1) interpret and use precise mathematical language and be able to construct and follow mathematical proofs; (2) use a complete catalog of the tools of calculus (e.g., limits, continuity, differentiation and integration); (3) demonstrate mathematical creativity and critical thinking by applying problem-solving strategies to solve multiple-step calculus problems; (4) demonstrate an understanding of the interconnectedness between the major topics in the course from various perspectives (i.e. graphical, numerical, symbolic and verbal); (5) Use appropriate technology in the evaluation, analysis and synthesis of information in problem-solving situations. The instructor will assign Honors projects as part of the course. This course offers an integrated educational experience providing you with opportunities where applicable to explore the meanings of and develop abilities related to the four core values espoused by the college and our Honors Programs: leadership, creativity, service, and scholarship.
