RELN 4001 - History and Literature of the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament (3) Credit Hours Prerequisite: RELN 1100 and ENGL 1102 with a grade of “C” or higher. This course addresses the nature, content, and problems of the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament with attention given to: 1. The uses of the text by communities who revere or appreciate its content (e.g. Jews, Christians, and Muslims): 2. The relevant historical data which shape the text (e.g. the relationship between text and material culture in historiography); 3. The literary forms of the ancient world (e.g. history, epic, myth, law, prophecy, poetry, wisdom literature, etc.); and 4. The ancient Near Eastern literary and cultural backgrounds of the text.
