MATH 2500 - Foundations of Mathematics (3) Credit Hours Prerequisite/Co-Requisite: MATH 2210 An introduction to the language and tools used in upper level mathematics courses. After completing this course, students should be able to: (1) Construct a rigorous mathematical proof using a variety of techniques including induction, contradiction, and contrapositive; (2) Determine whether a mathematical argument is valid given the appropriate content background, and identify the flaws in an invalid mathematical argument; (3) Use the tools of naïve set theory;(4) Demonstrate a knowledge of and ability to use various foundational mathematical concepts such as functions, relations, ordering and cardinality.
