READ 3600 - Literacy Assessment (4) Credit Hours Prerequisite: Admission to Educator Preparation Co-requisite: READ 3200 This course will provide candidates with a foundation in literacy assessment. Methods for identifying the strengths and meeting the needs of first- and second-language learners will be examined. Candidates will gain experience using informal classroom assessment techniques such as informal reading inventories, running records, kid-watching and portfolio assessments. Candidates will also learn to interpret standardized test data related to reading assessment and academic language development (including assessments for English language learners). Candidates will use formal and informal assessment data to design, implement and reflect upon an individualized plan to support a struggling reader. Includes field experience in a P-5 classroom.
