FILM 3040 - Survey of Animation

(3) Credit Hours
Prerequisite: FILM 1005  and FILM 3010  both with grade of “C” or better
Survey of Animation covers a variety of animation styles and techniques from the early 1900s onwards. Students learn concepts related to character animation as well as traditional draw, cut-out, pixelated and model animation. The class discusses the work of renowned filmmakers such as Hayao Miyazaki, Norman McLaren, Ayoka Chenizra, to name a few. It covers narrative, documentary and experimental styles of animation. Survey of Animation also introduces fundamentals of software programs including Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects. Students will complete several hands-on projects that demonstrate different animation styles and techniques.
