EXSC 4500 - Clinical Exercise Physiology

(3) Credit Hours
Prerequisite: EXSC 4100K  
This course will provide students with an advanced application of physiological concepts to clinical populations to include individuals with cardiovascular, pulmonary, and neuromuscular diseases as well as those with diabetes, osteoporosis, or physical limitations. Emphasis will be on understanding the pathophysiology of the condition, clinical assessment, and appropriate exercise prescription for these populations.
Upon completing the course, students will be able to:
        -Explain the pathophysiology of cardiopulmonary, metabolic, neurological, and musculoskeletal diseases and disorders.
    -Describe how the acute responses and chronic adaptations to exercise differ in a clinical population as compared to an apparently healthy population.
    -Administer appropriate clinical assessments and interpret findings.
    -Apply exercise prescription principles to clinical populations for the purpose of maintaining or improving functional capacity.
