MGED 3400B - Middle Grades Field I

Prerequisite: Admission to the Educator Preparation Program
Co-requisite: MGED 3400A  
This is one of 2 linked courses for students pursuing a degree in teacher education. It is designed to be taken along with MGED 3400A  , Curriculum and Instruction in the Middle Grades Classroom. This course is a semester-long student intern experience in a school setting, under the supervision of a qualified classroom teacher and college faculty. Candidates will transition from observing classroom teaching and learning to assisting, collaboratively planning and delivering instruction with a mentor teacher to middle/high school students. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate professionalism and effective use of instructional strategies, as well as provision of a positive learning environment for all students. Candidates will examine the school context, develop instructional planning and teaching skills, as well as practice implement formative assessments and analyze data to determine specific learner needs, in conjunction with mentor teachers at field experience sites. This course includes 1 ½ days per week (approximately 12 hours) in a field placement.
