ELED 3400B - Elementary Education Field I

1 Credit Hours
Prerequisite: Admission to the Educator Preparation Program
Co-requisite: ELED 3100  AND ELED 3400A  
This field course is a co-requisite to ELED 3400A   - Curriculum and Instruction in Elementary Education. Both are designed to build a comprehensive understanding of the interaction among the school, the curriculum, and the student. The purpose of the field is to acclimate first semester ELED teacher candidates to the placement experience and facilitate their transitional development from student to teacher candidate. During this field course, candidates will observe the process of curriculum development and the use of educational frameworks that promote multiple approaches to meeting the needs of diverse candidates. Candidates will interview and shadow teachers and candidates to gain insight into their respective roles in the context of the school environment. Under the supervision of a qualified mentor teacher and college supervisor, candidates will begin to develop professional knowledge about the curriculum in an elementary classroom. This course includes 1 ½ days (approximately 12 hours) in an elementary field placement.
