HUSE 3500 - Social Justice and Advocacy

(3) Credit Hours
Prerequisite: (HUSE 2010  or HDAS 2010 )  or Permission of Instructor
This course examines the role of social justice and advocacy work in different human and social service-related communities and organizations.  The topics of this course include developing a framework for 1) engaging diversity and differences in social services practice and 2) advocating for human rights and social justice. This work will include the exploration of different sources of power, multiple social locations, social constructions, social processes, social identities, conflicts, and how all these interact. A major focus of the course will include the development of reflexive self and contextual analyses that can be used to work for change.
