MATH 4800 - Internship in Mathematics (3) Credit Hours Prerequisite: Completion of Area F requirements for Mathematics major field of student and Permission of Math Internship Committee A pre-approved experiential activity in a mathematics related field providing a practical, mathematics or related working experience for the student. The mathematics internship experience combines critical thinking, reflection, and mathematics training in real-world settings. Academic credit will be awarded for satisfactory completion of the academic assignments (as determined by a mathematics internship coordinator) and satisfactory completion of onsite work (minimum of 80 onsite hours per semester and total 120 internship hours). Upon completion of this courses students will: (1) Acquire real world job experience by successfully completing an internship with a company or organization; (2) Utilize effective oral and written communication with customers, clients, supervisors, and other employees in the working environment, (3)compose a final report which analyzes how the skills learned during the internship contributes to their mathematics studies and future career goals,(4) give an oral presentation discussing what the student learned during the course of the internship and how the work contributes to their mathematics studies and future career goals; (5) Obtain skills to assist with the transition from academia to the organizational environment; (6) Demonstrate critical thinking and problem analysis, utilizing various tools and technologies.
