BIOL 3050 - Tropical Biology (3) Credit Hours Prerequisite: BIOL 1102 or BIOL 1108K This course introduces students to tropical taxa, ecosystem, and cultures. The course includes 45 hours of instruction at GGC plus a 9-day field experience in one or more countries in tropical regions. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1: Describe the ecology of the rainforest and tropical ecosystems; 2: Identify tropical taxa and describe the ecological interactions and adaptations of local species; 3: Describe personal interactions with local taxa, ecosystems, and culture; 4: Describe the historical significances of tropical ecosystems on evolutionary theory; 5: Compare and contrast North American viewpoints with those of other cultures with a focus on environmental issues.
This course is repeatable up to 6 hours credit with instructor permission as long as the student visits two different regions of the world )e.g., Costa Rica and Thailand).
