HIST 3545 - The Byzantine Empire

Prerequisite: ENGL 1102 and any two of the following: HIST 1111, HIST 1112, HIST 1121, HIST 1122, HIST 2111, HIST 2112. All courses must be completed with a grade of C or better.
Lecture based course focusing on the Byzantine Empire, from its birth starting with the division of the Roman Empire to its final demise in 1453, when the Ottomans conquered Constantinople. Course traces the scientific, artistic, political, military, and cultural achievements of this long-lived empire, and follows its evolution from antiquity to a medieval society, sowing the seeds of a number of developments during the Renaissance.
