EDUC 3400A - Teaching and Learning in Secondary Education (3) Credit Hours Prerequisite: Admission to Educator Preparation Program Co-requisite: EDUC 3400B or MGED 3400B Cross-listed with: MGED 3400A This course provides an overview of teaching and learning in the context of the contemporary American middle/secondary school. Using an inquiry approach, candidates will build a comprehensive understanding of the interaction among the school, the curriculum, and the students at various levels in 4-12 schools. Candidates will explore national, state and local content standards as well as other educational trends and policies that impact teaching in their respective content areas. Through weekly activities and field-based inquiry, candidates will explore selected teaching models that are representative of the various approaches to curriculum, instruction and assessment, and their application in middle/secondary school content areas.
