HUSE 2010 - Writing in the Social Sciences

Prerequisite: ENGL 1102  and HUSE 2000   with a grade of C or better; or permission of instructor for non-HUSE majors 
This course will guide students in understanding and producing academic writing in the social sciences and will improve their writing skills to effectively communicate in upper division courses and careers.  The course covers four areas:  1) the social context of academic writing; 2) the structure of academic writing; 3) searching the social scientific literature; and 4) the production of original literature reviews.  Students will workshop the deconstruction of journal articles, and then based on a topic of their choosing, write a statement of interest, formal research proposal, annotated bibliography, and outline, all culminating in a complete literature review in APA format.
