HUSE 3000 - Global Aging

(3) Credit Hours
Prerequisite: ENGL 1102  and HUSE 2000   or better or permission of instructor
The graying of the world is an undeniable reality that presents triumphs and challenges in different nations. These changes intersect with dimensions like age, race, gender, religion, and social class, and vary within and across cultures. This course examines components of biogerontology, cognitive gerontology, social gerontology, industrial gerontology, and ethnogerontology in different world regions. Population trends in different regions raise the question of sustainability of families and nations to provide for their elders. An examination of the socio-cultural contexts, policies, and practices of nations will enable a comprehensive understanding of global aging.
