ITEC 3170 - Data Intensive Fundamentals

(3) Credit Hours
Prerequisite: ITEC 2150  or ITEC 3160  
This is a foundation course providing core concepts for Data Science and Analytics concentration majors teaching them key concepts required to enable them to
successfully employ the various data intensive tools. Students will learn different operating and distributed systems topics as well as installation and basic use of these tools. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: (1) Explain the history of data science; (2) Demonstrate command line mastery of commonly used operating system and the administration of each; (3) Explain basic distributed system concepts; (4) Employ appropriate and popular programming languages to perform basic data science/analytics tasks; (5) Explain the ethical and moral issues surrounding the uses of data; (6) Install and configure development environments in their Unix operating system; and (7) Install and configure data intensive tools.
