BIOL 4001 - Professional Aspects in Biology (1) Credit Hours Prerequisite: A major in Biology with a minimum of 16 credits earned in 3000/4000 Level BIOL courses This course will focus on developing a student’s written, oral, and career research skills as they near graduation and prepare to enter the workforce as a professional biologist, or continue their studies in graduate or professional programs. By the end of the course, students will be able to: (1) Successfully research and navigate online resources to explore job opportunities in the Biological Sciences and/or graduate/professional programs in biology; (2) Prepare a professional curriculum vitae and resume which reflects accurately and appropriately skills acquired through their academic, research, and service work; (3) Write an effective cover letter or letter of application; (4) Demonstrate how to request, in a professional manner, letters of recommendation; (5) Develop effective interview and oral communication skills; (6) Complete the application process for a minimum of three jobs or graduate/professional programs.
