Admission to the MAT Program

Graduate Student Teaching for Secondary Teachers is a 15-week intensive student teaching experience following the successful completion of SEC 5800. Placed in the same classroom as graduate practicum, MAT candidates are expected to be actively engaged in planning, instruction, managing, assessing, and reflecting on their own practice. As MAT candidates become more involved in the context of their placement, they will collect data for the Problems of Practice research assignment. It is expected at this stage of the MAT program, graduate candidates are regularly applying theoretical and pedagogical understandings in their classrooms. All MAT candidates will be supervised by a GGC faculty member with content expertise in the area of certification.
