English Minor

The Minor in English allows students to enhance skills in critical thinking, writing and effective communication that are invaluable in contemporary society. The Minor program will build upon the foundation in rhetoric and writing skills formed in the Gen Ed core and will introduce students to the basics of literary studies. With nine credits of advanced, elective study, students will have the freedom to increase either breadth or depth in writing, rhetoric, or literature.

Requires 15 credit hours, all completed with a grade of C or higher, as delineated below:

Core Writing Competency (3 credit hours)

  • Select 1 from the following:

Core Literature (6 credit hours):

  • Two 2000-level ENGL courses, excluding any course taken as a part of the Gen Ed core in Areas A through E
  • If ENGL 2801 is selected in the Core Writing Competency select only 1 2000 level course

Advanced Study (9 credit hours):

  • Three ENGL courses at the 3000-level or higher
  • If ENGL 3600 or ENGL 3001 is selected in Core Writing Competency, select only 2 additional 3000/4000 level courses.
