African American Studies

The African American Studies minor incorporates the plurality of experiences and perspectives of African Americans and other people of African descent, contextualized as part of the larger African Diaspora.  Students will learn through an interdisciplinary approach that uses history, social sciences, political science, literature, arts and popular culture

After completion of coursework for the minor (or during the final semester of enrollment before graduating), students will enroll in AFAM 4800Portfolio Completion, which requires compilation of an electronic portfolio that provides syllabi and relevant artifacts from courses taken in the minor. This course carries no hours of credit, there are no tuition fees involved, and grading is satisfactory/unsatisfactory (no letter grade).
