An understanding of the fundamental concepts and principles of biology afford greater career flexibility and opportunity for non-biology majors in a highly competitive and increasingly interdisciplinary job market in both STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) and non-STEM fields. The purpose of the Biology minor program is to provide non-biology majors with a background in the fundamental concepts and principles of biology for application in non-biology careers, such as chemistry, mathematics, informational technology, engineering, psychology, business, and technical/science writing.

Biology Requirement
- A minor in Biology must include 18 credit hours of biology course work (BIOL or BCHM designation only), with at least 9 hours at the 3000/4000 level. At least one 3000/4000 level course must include a lab.
- Students are responsible for meeting all prerequisite requirements (such as CHEM 1211K /CHEM 1212K or BIOL 1107K / BIOL 1108K ) for the biology courses they choose to take, and are strongly encouraged to take these prerequisites as early as possible in their academic career.
- Courses excluded from the Biology Minor are: non-majors science courses BIOL 1101K /BIOL 1102 ; Research courses BIOL 4560 , BIOL 4570 , STEC 2500 , STEC 4200 , STEC 4500 ; Internship BIOL 4800 ; Capstone/Interdisciplinary Applications in Biology BIOL 4700 ; and Readings in Biology BIOL 4600
- Grade of “C” or better are required for all courses and labs counting towards the minor
- Courses used to satisfy general education requirements cannot also be used to satisfy the Biology minor requirements.
