Professional Studies Minor

There are three ways to obtain this minor to include completion of one of the following:  1) our Honors Program requirements, 2) a minor of study currently in demand for a Georgia Business; 3) student initiated program to prepare for post-graduate studies or specified profession. In each case, student must complete 15-18 hours of study towards this minor, with at least 9 hours at the 3000/4000 level as outlined by the specific minor plan.  Hours taken within Area A-E may not be counted towards the minor.  Up to 6-9 hours may be within Area F. with the remaining 9 hours (out of 15-18) at the 3000/4000 level.  12-15 hours may be within the major area of study, as required courses or electives, but at least 3 credit hours of the minor must not be counted toward the student’s major program of study.  Furthermore, students outside the Honors Program will not be eligible for this minor unless they gain approval for the outlined coursework before completion of 50% of the credit hours.  Please see your Dean’s office for further details.

Select One of the following Options


Option 1: Honors Program Track


Students in the Honors Program will qualify for this minor through completion of requirements of the Honors Program, to include acceptance into the Honors Program, completion of HNRS 1000   if accepted into the program with fewer than 24 earned crdit hours and completion of 6 hours of HNRS 3000 .

Option 2: Georgia Business


Students wishing to obtain a minor for a job with a Georgia business or in preparation for post-graduate studies should work with their mentor to determine the coursework needed for their area of study and/or contact their School Dean’s office for more information.

At least 9 hours at the 3000/4000 level with 15-18 hours total required.

15-18 total credit hours that either satisfy the requirements of the Honors program or were approved by the Professional Studies Minor Committee to fulfill requirement for a graduate/professional program or for a specific job/career path.  None of the hours can be from Area A-E in the student’s major program of study.  The hours may be from Area F or the major requirements or electives in the student’s major.

*Please note that as with all minor areas of study, once your major of study is completed, you may not complete a minor area of study.  You must enrolled in at least one course outlined in your major plan while completing requirements of the minor.

Option 3: Post-Graduate Studies Track


Students wishing to obtain a minor in preparation for post-graduate studies should work with their mentor to determine the coursework needed for their area of study and/or contact their School Dean’s office for more information.

At least 9 hours at the 3000/4000 level with 15-18 hours total required.
