Anthropology Minor

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Programs of Study

Anthropology is the study of humans and human behavior from the perspective of the concept of culture and cultural systems. Anthropology consciously does not focus exclusively on a region, time period, or society, but instead emphasizes the importance of cross-cultural research and a holistic approach to how the parts interact and affect each other as a system. Anthropological perspectives and methods are central to understanding our increasingly diverse and global world and to confronting the complex problems and issues facing societies today.

Students who wish to minor in anthropology must take 15 hours of courses toward the minor.  There are three required courses: ANTH 1102, ANTH 3010, and ANTH 4000.  Students will also take 6 hours of elective courses in anthropology or related disciplines (at least 3 elective hours must be within anthropology). At least 12 hours completed for the minor must be at the 3000 level or above. A grade of C or better is required in all courses counting towards the minor.
