NURS 4012 - Nursing Leadership (3) Credit Hours Prerequisite: Admission to the Nursing Program and successful completion of (NURS 4001 , or NURS 4002 or NURS 4003 ), NURS 4020 , NURS 4051 This course provides students with skills necessary to be managers and leaders in a diverse healthcare system. Concepts related to management and leadership such as prioritization, delegation, supervision, inter and intra-professional communication, informatics, advocacy, emotional intelligence, teamwork, collaboration, decision-making, health policy, workplace violence, and conflict resolution will be explored. Comparisons among organizational structures will be completed while students investigate each structures impact on planned change and healthcare management and leadership. Students will analyze various leadership theories and apply these theories to various legal/ethical issues and fiscal planning. Students will examine the differences between caring for and caring about to be effective nurse leaders. This course will not only prepare students to be leaders at the bedside (individual, families), but also prepare them to be nurse leaders locally, nationally, and globally (groups, communities, populations) to transform healthcare.
