EXSC 3250 - Changing Health Behaviors (3) Credit Hours Prerequisite: PHED 1101 and PSYC 1102 and MATH 2050 or (PSYC 3020 or HDAS 3010 or HUSE 3010 or HSCI 2000 ) This course is designed to acquaint students with general theories of behavior, guide them through exercises for developing skills in behavior analysis, and provide information on how to achieve behavior change goals. Students will learn coping skills for problem solving and learn techniques for developing individual and community-based health behavior change programs. Specifically, students will: 1) Explain and analyze the key components of health behavior theories relevant to health education; 2) Differentiate between individual, group, and community-level health behavior theories; 3) Describe the integration of behavior-change techniques when developing a community-based health program; 4) Demonstrate the use of various learning techniques in developing a new health supporting behavior; 5) Explain the value of lifelong learning and self-improvement regarding ones own health behavior; and 6) Apply constructs of health behavior theories and models to address health inequities across populations.
