HIST 4870 - Introduction to Archival Studies (3) Credit Hours Prerequisite: ENGL 1101 ENGL 1102 and select 2 courses from the following: HIST 1111 HIST 1112 HIST 1121 HIST 1122 HIST 2111 HIST 2112 one course must be either (HIST 2111 or HIST 2112 ) This course is an introduction to archival studies. Topics covered include archival theory, principles and practices; acquisition and management of archival records and collections; the processing, arrangement, cataloging, and preservation of manuscripts and records; digitization of archival materials; support for researchers and public access of archives; and legal and ethical challenges associated with the archival profession. This course includes a practicum experience requiring students to process a small manuscript collection and write a finding aid.
