Prerequisite: BIOL 2251K or BIOL 2251H
A study of anatomy and physiology for students interested in pursuing careers in Allied Health Professions. This course is the Honors version of BIOL2252K. It focuses on problem-based learning and active learning activities to enhance the learning experience of the students. Students taking this course will learn to: (1) Apply concepts and knowledge of general terminology, cell structure and function and gross anatomy, physiology, histology, and terminology related to the cardiovascular, endocrine, lymphatic, immune, respiratory, urinary, digestive and reproductive systems; (2) Demonstrate an understanding of the endocrine system and its importance in maintaining homeostasis of the human body systems; (3) Read, understand, and critically evaluate information related to anatomy and physiology from medical journals, health articles, and other information sources: (4) Recognize various tissue types and cell types, and make generalizations about their function; (5) Collect data and analyze the results of physiological experiments using the Scientific Method; (6) Effectively communicate case studies in anatomy and physiology through verbal, written, or multimedia means; (7) Apply anatomical and physiological concepts to integrated educational experiences to explore novel technologies in healthcare, health & wellbeing, and pathological disorders; and (8) Explore the meanings of and develop abilities related to the four core values espoused by the college and the Honors Programs: Leadership, Creativity, Service, and Scholarship. In part, this means that BIOL 2452K-H consistently will challenge students and offer students learning opportunities that fully support the College’s Vision and Mission via the promotion of a dynamic learning community.
