NURS 4004 - Care of the Older Adult

(2-4) Credit Hours
Prerequisite:   NURS 3021 , NURS 3031 , NURS 3012 , NURS 3040   with a Grade of C or higher
This intra-professional and interdisciplinary elective seminar course introduces students to the specific management of care of older adults and to the role of the nurse as a member of the healthcare team.  The focus of this course is to increase understanding and appreciation of normal aging processes and age-related physiological changes, as well as spiritual and psychosocial changes associated with aging.  Emphasis is placed on healthy aging approaches, positive developmental attributes, and creative approaches that enrich life processes and encourage independence and function. The nurse’s role in promoting culturally sensitive care for older adults, independent living, and healthy aging are also explored.
