I. Purpose and Policy Statement

Faculty shall be evaluated based on the merits of their performance and qualifications. As such, GGC has established definite and stated criteria, consistent with Board of Regents and GGC policies, against which the performance of each faculty member will be evaluated. The criteria shall include evaluation of instruction, student success activities, research/scholarship, and service as is appropriate to the faculty member’s institution, school, and department, and responsibilities. The criteria shall be submitted to the USG Chief Academic Officer for review and approval. Faculty shall not be evaluated based on other factors outside of these established criteria. The annual evaluation process is considered as a tool to aid each faculty member’s professional development and to facilitate retention. Evaluations are conducted annually and are used as a faculty development and retention tool, as well as a review of contributions toward GGC’s Institutional Goals and as a source of information for determining eligbility for merit pay increase recommendations. For specific procedures of the evaluation process, see GGC Faculty Manual of Policies and Procedures Faculty Evaluations/Annual Performance (approved by USG, December 9, 2022).

II. Scope

This policy applies to all GGC teaching faculty and library faculty members.

III. Roles and Responsibilities

More refined articulation of these values and their interpretation are the responsibility of individual schools and departments.
